"I posted this on the CT forum and was amazed at the backwards denial CT residents are in."

We dont want you taking our jobs and we certainly dont need any more pizza places or pubs....so there's no need for a bridge to further clog our already clogged I-95. We moved to New England for a reason...not to have an east coast version of Californication. How many Connecticut residents think an infusion of Long Islanders and their so-called culture is a healthy thing.? All Long Island brings is negative and aggressive drivers. The real reason you want that bridge...you want our jobs and easy access to your vacation houses....TRUTH. This bridge/tunnel mostly serves Long Island....for the people of Long Island.
That bridge would never even get into Westchester Co never mind Connecticut. You chose to live on the Island...now live with it and your insane taxes!

Actually Jimin there have been a couple of threads on this bridge. But it is not Long Islanders wanting to drive on your "already clogged I-95". It is the other way around and it was mentioned that Long Island highways could be used as an alternate to I-95! I strongly suspect some of these people are truck drivers btw. I cannot say I blame them.

Nor have I ever heard of hordes of Long Islanders wanting jobs in Connecticut. I do suspect more Long Islanders would hit the casinos if a bridge was built. Why would New York State spend billions for a bridge for that? Might as well stab ourselves in the foot.

Because your "backwards" government in Albany cant say no to spending....and now you wont be able to afford a bridge. NY State is only going to get more in the red...upstate is dying and people are increasingly realizing that a sexy address in NY is not neccessary. The casinos have a ferry to shuttle LI folks. There is also a Pt Jeff ferry and Orient Point. That will have to suffice along with the Throgs Neck. My Dad left LI in 1970...he knew what was going to happen down there. We moved to the boondocks, but I loved growing up like that. LI is going downhill fast for a reason.....your public employees are strangling you...like the sons-of-cement-executives who permeate into the school districts (300,000 for a superintendent??...). Firemen and cops who knowingly pad their overtime to pad their pension. You are getting creamed down there...its not going to get better.

Believe me...many would love to work in CT..and subsequently leave Long Island given the chance. Go to North Carolina and Georgia.....you'll see where the middle classes have been forced to move to. My uncle pays 13,000 tax on a postage stamp lot in Rockville Centre....that is absolutely INSANE.

Right now however, I do think the priority right now should be building a new (and better) Tappan Zee Bridge. There is also a long term proposal to build a tunnel under New York Bay so the Long Island Railroad could be connected to New Jersey. This would take a huge amount of truck traffic off the Island and also lower some prices.
LIRR is also working on an east side access project to allow trains to go into Grand Central...to be completed 2012. I'd love a bridge to CT, but where the money is coming from, I don't know.
