Hi, I am looking for an affodable used SUV with a shape and approximate size to that of the 2008 Nissan Xterra/Jeep Wrangler but that is much more dependable and safe... I don't like the minivan look that alot of these SUV's are coming out with in much newer models. I am interested in affordable SUV's with max price of $12,500 from 2008 and on with a possible GPS sytem. Must be reliable and have a high safety pass rate and great against snow/ruuged terrain. Does anyone happen to know of what models fit this description with possible links?......Not crazy about SUVs like Ford Explorer as their height base is really low. Any advice would be greatly appreciate as I am a first time car buyer here in NY. Thanks in advance...

Thanks for the suggestion Me007gold. But those SUV's almost have a stationwagon look as it is quite long and a low height base... I like the tall height base that the Xterra has...

I second the Tahoe/Yukon. They're pretty bulletproof. The Toyota 4Runner is a good choice as well.

You do not have much choice. The only vehicles that is similar to the Xterra are either the FJ or 4Runner.

My pick would probably be a 4Runner. I like the FJ too, but I'd prefer 4 doors.

An Outback looks like a station wagon. Not sure I would accuse a Trailblazer of that, and certainly not a Tahoe.

Not sure you really have a ton of choices here. FJ Cruiser?

What's wrong with the '08 Xterra? I have an '05, it's been pretty bulletproof for me. Personally, I'd get it over a 4runner...too many people that I know that have them have had a lot of problems.

Toyman at Jewel Lake-The 08 Xterra has a lot of transmission issues and many trusted car experts have cited other faulty issues with that model.
