It's just so unusual to see a woman of your height that it probably takes people by surprise, that's all.

He was probably a real sports nut who was hoping you might have played for the WNBA so he could ask for an autograph
That's what I was thinking too. To be quite honest, I am only 5' and even though I'm fine with my height, when I see someone as tall as you, I always comment that you could be a model. I don't do it anymore but when I was younger I would say that. I was giving a compliment to that person.

But you have to realize that not everyone see a 6'1" women with 4" heels everyday.

"Tall enough to see that bald spot on the very top of your head"
That's great thinking and a great response! I love that!

I'm barely 5'4...more like just over 5'3" which really isn't that short...but I've gotten comments on that...usually at the grocery store when I have to ask for assistance to get something off the top shelf that has been pushed back. Heck, if I were single it would be a great way to pick up men!

My poor son has strawberry blonde curly hair ...he gets comments EVERY TIME we go somewhere...never fails. He will be answering "where did you get that hair from?" for the rest of his life or until he goes bald.

People comment on my daughters hair and eyes ALL the time too...she has color you could never find in a bottle. The best colorist couldn't replicate her hair color and her eyes are somewhere between grey and green.
Since I'm short too and if my kids aren't with me, I have to have someone get an item from the top shelf when I go grocery shopping.

Also my daughter had very, very curly hair when she was younger and someone asked me if I permed her hair (she was 2 y.o. ).

So I think people ask questions not only to start conversations but also out of curiosity.

I've been told many times that I'm way too short or I'm really short and I smile and say yep, I sure am, if I can't think of anything else to say at the moment.

Sure. I usually start with a compliment.

A girl at work has hair like yours. It's soooo beautiful! She's a sweetheart and lets me play with it!

Lol I'm sorry, for some reason I always thought you were a guy, that's why I thought the comment you made about the perm was rather strange, lol!

Ack! I hope my posts aren't being misread as me being upset or angry because that's not the case. Usually when I'm telling these stories to my family I'm laughing about it, not annoyed.

I'm always caught off guard when approached, no matter what the question is, so I tend to answer with straight answers & a smile and assume that will be the end of it. I wish I had the wits to screw with folks though.

LOL, my college roommate used to love brushing my hair when I wore it straight. It was so relaxing. She'd sit and braid it and put it in a twist too...I have to admit, she had a gift with styling hair. I never minded because I always came out looking fabulous!

I think that's perfectly understandable. I think 99% of people with unusual attributes understand that there's no harmful intent behind any of the comments... only curiosity and interest. At the same time, after awhile so many "Oh my goodness, look at you!" remarks can become a bit of a drain, reminding that person just how odd they really are, even if they respond graciously and don't take offense. When there's something quite remarkable about you that you can neither help nor do anything to change, it does become tiresome to be stopped frequently by perfect strangers, even if you are okay with that physical attribute and happy in yourself.

Just say "I'm 6'1" & rising". "I'm a growing girl".

I have commented on hair and accents, and I have had comments on my hair.

I guess I have also commented on scents, man or woman, if they smell good.
