A friend's husband is in the Secret Service, and he is furloughed. My company also works a lot with OSHA and it looks like most or all of them are too.
friend is off & worried about the people affected by the projects furlough is delaying. He/coworkers will be facing huge workload when they return. Some are planning on cancelling planned vacations due to the work they will be facing - but can't make any plans with the uncertainty. They can't "vacation" now, since they need to be able to return to work immediately when called back Blaming Republicans
Yes, a couple of my friends are furloughed. Also, I know contractors who are affected.
I suppose who to blame is a subject for Politics and Other Controversies, but I will say that the procedure for changing a law you don't like involves introducing another law and putting it through all the usual steps--committees, approval in House and Senate, and signature by the President--not throwing a tantrum and trying to slip changes in through the back door on a larger piece of legislation that affects the entire government, and then taking your bat and your ball and going home when you don't get your way.
I have a friend who works for an agency affiliated with NASA. As of last week, he was still having to work, but not sure if he would be receiving a paycheck. Kind of sucks when you have a mortgage to pay, etc.
Our new neighbors are both on furlough and they just moved into their new house The good news is that they will be paid for staying home. I have a retired friend expecting her first social security check but she was told that she might not get paid. It's time for some major changes on our next elections.
