Sort of- my husband was deemed essential so he had to go to work while his co-workers had a weeks paid vacation. Meanwhile - we had to cancel our own vacation (planned to take some days off during that week) which we had planned for some time bcause he wasn't allowed to take vacation time during the furlough....

Yes, I know of a few people in hospitality who are being furloughed due to low occupancy.

A close friend works for the DOJ and is furloughed. She is fearful of what will happen if she continues not to get paid.

I blame our elected officials collectively. Childish and ridiculous.

In our county, which only has a population of 100K we have 1250 on furlough who will not have paychecks to spend. The national parks and forests which are essential to our economy are closed. I don't have one bit of hesitation in blaming Ted Cruz and all the Republicans who don't have the guts to stand up to the Tea Party nuts. And Boehner, who has the leadership ability of a clam.

And a baked clam, at that.

I blame them all and I don't think they should get their withheld paychecks when they return. (What's up with that? An extra vacation?) If they didn't get paid, like the furloughed people, I'll bet their butts would get back to work and get it done already!

The house, Boehner, has already agreed to fund the government - senate and POTUS won't budge. They want it all or you suffer.
The TEA party nuts want government to work per the Constitution. The sooner you LWNJs catch on to the facts the sooner you will learn who the real problem is.

Only 15% of the Gov't is actually shut down. We can't cut 15% As for the 800,000 non essentials on furlough...cut them too! Folks, we MUST learn to live within our means, or we'll be speaking Chinese in 20 years...at the point of an AK rifle.

I'm no fan of the man, but this post is rude.

Don't you realize, there are many people who are being forced to take an UNPAID "vacation"??

They will not be getting ANY money for this time off.
