Women without children like Patrice Grell Yursik, who just celebrated her 12th wedding anniversary, get the same questions all the time.
"I can't even tell you how many cab drivers in Chicago, in New York, in L.A., have asked me, 'So any kids? No kids, why no kids?' It's just the way that people engage with you," said Grell Yursik, 35, of Chicago, creator of the beauty and lifestyle blog Afrobella.com. She and her husband have not decided whether they want to have children.
I think Radhika Jones nailed it in the interview when she said that women get judged for any choice they make.
Agreed. I don't have kids. I have fertility issues, but I obviously don't want them bad enough. I'm not going into debt and onto welfare to have treatments, risk my marriage, health, and my sanity to go through what could be year long treatments to walk away and still maybe not have a baby anyway.
But then again, I have female friends with kids. If you have one, people hem and haw, how could you just have one? Your kid will be selfish and have problems if it's an only child. Then if you have 2 and they are the same sex, you HAVE to try for the opposite sex (as if you have any say). If you have more than 3, you have too many kids and are judged for that. Seems to me unless you either have one of each sex or 3 kids, 2 of one sex and 1 of the other, that's the only way to get out of being judged for your baby-making choices.
Then of course if you have them too young, too old, too close or too far apart, you're gonna hear about that. The whole BFing, SAHM vs WAHM is another can of worms too. You just can't win.
It's just appalling the way the entire world obsesses over women's sexuality and their choices in general. And I do mean OBSESS. I just do not get it. Why do people care SO MUCH about every detail of every woman's life?

It's really more nosiness. A lot of people obsess over things men do that aren't any of their business too and they tend to be the same kind of people.

Yep. I've said it before on here. If you DECIDE to not have kids you have to get ready for the weird looks and crazy comments. I get them almost weekly. I'm not changing my mind.
Please name me ONE BIT of men-specific legislation that has been proposed ANYWHERE in North America.
