That's a really mean thing to say! What if you have a friend in common? Wouldn't that make you friends once removed?
But, then they would never know. No one is going to say "Anthony?! You know Anthony? I know Anthony!" Unless one of your top 5 friends is the mythical La-a, no one would even know if they were talking about the same Anthony.
