A new restaurant opened up in my neighborhood recently and I've been a frequent patron. While the food, drinks, and service are always excellent, I was honest in my feedback that nights without special pricing are just too high. I was also honest in that I receive good service and the food is terrific.

Are you honest when asked to give feedback?

That's a loaded question.

Here are a couple of white lie examples: "No, honey, I don't mind if you don't want to take Viagra because of the side-effects, at all."

Or, "No, honey, your butt doesn't look big in those pants, at all."

Just saying, nobody is always honest with their feedback. Well, nobody who has friends or a spouse.

If we're talking about businesses, then absolutely. But I always try to be constructive and offer suggestions. I don't just say "your food SUCKS" ... I might say "the soup is quite salty, it would be much better if you could cut back" or "the fries were rather limp; perhaps they need a little longer in the fryer?"

In interpersonal relationships, it really depends on the situation and what's being asked. A little tact goes a long way.

With a business, yes. With someone who is close enough to me that they can kill me, no way

Of course, otherwise what's the point?

ETA: I often choose to not give feedback particularly if its bad. I don't know what that says about me...

Also if I've had a great experience, I verbally tell them so, when I leave. Always.

I used to work in hospitality.

Yes. If you ask me for my opinion about something, no matter what it is, I will honestly tell you what I think. If you don't truly want to know, don't ask.

It has to be really bad or really good before I offer feedback. I don't want to be bothered. I hate those stupid surveys we have to take after getting our car serviced, or for other services.
