Family comparing me to my cousin... (wife, member, money)

Hi, so my cousin is a year older than me. My family enjoys criticizing certain family members behind their back. Done my best at trying to avoid giving and receiving criticism. For awhile my family has compared me in a positive aspect and my cousin in a negative aspect.

My cousin about 3 to 4 year's ago moved out to my Aunts', his moms, summer home. He lived rent free only paying for the cable and groceries while there. He lived there with his fiancé now wife over the 4 year's. My cousin is moving out now with his wife renting their own place.

Now my family is upset and continues to tell me how their embarrassed of me moving in with my fiancé at her MIL place. We plan to pay rent and buy our groceries. While there plan to save up money till we can move our on our own.

I don't understand the criticism from my family when my cousin did the same thing for year's.

What's your thought's on this?

I'm kinda confused. Is the place you guys are moving into your mom's or what?

Anyways, why bother with the outsider criticism if all the relevant parties are okay with the setup?
