Hi. I am thinking of buying a ticket to a few countries but I would like to meet some people there, very to know the culture, etc.
However I have been quite socially isolated all my life so I often feel awkward talking to people (not everyone just most people).
Anyway the question is this: I do not have money (or much interest) in bars or clubs or restaurants or fast food or cinema or whatever "normal" people do. So without doing this (spending money) in a foreign country where I can only communicate in English, how can I try to meet people?
The purpose of "meeting people" there would be to get to know more about the country, culture, and the general idea of the people around. Not tourist attractions or some fancy restaurant or place for drinks or whatever (obviously since I don't have money for that and little interest).
Then perhaps instead of renting a hotel room, try to rent a room from someone local (through AirBnB or something similar). You can talk with your host about their culture and perhaps ask him or her what are the best spots to meet new people and learn about their country.
See if you can do volunteer projects in an area that interests you, be that teaching english, building houses, help with animal rescue etc?
