Ok, so an old friend of mine just posted pictures of her son's wedding reception. The event was "catered" by a burger and hot dog food truck.

So, post your tacky stories here.

I'm wondering what's so "tacky" about serving food you and your guests like? Unless the guests were expected to pay for their own food.

I don't think I can play, because I don't find your example tacky. Living within one's means, or having the wedding of your choice, isn't tacky.

Wow. I think a food truck for a casual outdoor wedding would be a lot of fun. If the happy couple and guests enjoy that sort of food and the atmosphere is low key and relaxed, why not have a food truck? Chances are it's more affordable than the standard wedding options, people actually like it, and it fits better into an outdoor wedding theme than some of the more formal options.

My husband and I must have had a tacky reception. We did a pig pickin' and had a keg of beer. That's what we could afford. We also told all the wedding guests to bring shorts and short sleeved shirts to change into since the reception was being held outdoors and it's hot here in May.

That sounds like a fun wedding reception. I expect they did that because they knew their guests would enjoy it and it fit into their budget. Nothing tacky about it at all.

Snotty, judgmental comments about an event one has no first-hand knowledge about, however ...

Better to be "tacky" than stupid.

Stupid are the ones who have to a big lavish wedding, spending in one day money that could be used for a down payment on a house.

It isn't tacky unless they are trying to pass it off as an extravagant, formal wedding and that's the food that was served.

I don't think it's tacky either. I think it's more tacky to talk crap about other people's choices in catering services.

We could afford a nice wedding if we wanted, but my idea of nice wedding would be few friends and family on the beach dressed casually and then having a beach party with some good Mexican food catered.

One and done and easy peasy.
