I have many friends with children I never met. They live in different parts of the country. I don't think I will be sending a gift for my friend's son's 50th birthday.
To each their own, I guess... I have neighbors kids call me Mr. my first name... and they call my wife, Mrs. her first name - only because our last name gets mispronounced all the time and instead of correcting them, it's easier for them to call us by our first name - WITH THE MR or MRS first!
I have friends who have kids who call us their 2nd set of parents - 2nd mom or 2nd dad - and in some cases, call us uncle and aunt... I find that to be a level of love, respect and would never find it low class as you've stated. But, you're allowed your opinion as I am allowed mine - just because your ideas aren't equal with mine doesn't give me the right to call you low class... no matter what your views are.

That's because, NewYorker11356, you value that friendship... good for you!
Once someone is on my 'friends list' - they don't get 'downgraded' either. A friend is a friend... through tick and thin - political contests - football playoffs - even weddings and divorces. A true friends friendship can't be measured... it's endless... as I'm betting is your feelings as well, NewYorker11356...
