Very best of success to you and she. It seems you chose well, and that is the first step.

Thank you both.

I'm seeing some positive progress and am confident it will continue in that direction.

I don't address them and don't understand why someone would. I say "good morning" not "good morning Dr. Jones." If he tells me to lose weight I would say "I'll try" not "I'll try Dr. Jones."

In college, 40+ years ago, it was always first names. In the first class they would say " I'm Bob Jones." One exception was the few time I had an assistant Dean for the instructor and people would call him Dean Jones.

I always say, "What's up doc?"

I never understood why society shows so much reverence for medical doctors.

When I am speaking to another person I always refer to my doctor(s) as "Dr. XXX." However, after my initial visit I usually become a bit more informal an just call them "doc." So far, no one has objected and if they did I might consider another physician. I also instruct them and the staff to address me by my first name when they try calling me "Mr. XX."

Well, mainly 'cause our lives are in their hands, so I'm going to "reverence" them.

But if I address them at all, it's just "Doctor", no name. They have my chart, so know my name and have always used first names, as I recall.

Doc.

I don't think or can't remember EVER being introduced to any of my doctors. Usually they come into a examination room and the first thing they do is ask what if happening - health wise. There is very little social interaction if any.

A nurse of medical assistant or office worker may be mentioned or referenced, but they too are never actually introduces. This the informal or non-name greetings.

I call my regular Dr. by his first name. It's a small town, he went to my school, I already knew him.

Other doctors, I don't really ever use their name except to make appointments and I say "Dr" to the receptionist.

Idc if I am paying them, they put a lot of hard work into getting that title, I will refer to them as such. It's no different than using Mr/Mrs/Miss and people do that all the time in non-casual settings. Other doctors have always call me Miss (Last name here).

I like to keep it formal. Even when my kids were growing up and I volunteered at the schools. I wanted to be know as Ms. _____. We are not buddies/friends. I want to keep it professional.

If a doctor or professional uses my first name, I will use their first name.
