This evening, my dog was extra barky, and I was hearing sounds that I finally figured out were these kids playing basketball in our driveway. Their ball kept hitting the garage door, which may explain why the door is so dented.
I went out to ask them not to play basketball in our driveway, and I was shocked to realize it wasn't just the two kids next door, but also their dad! Why would he think our driveway and basketball goal is up for grabs, especially when their ball keeps pounding into our garage door?! I explained that we're getting new garage doors soon and don't want them dented, so please don't play in our driveway. Part of me felt like a big meanie, but mostly I think that dad was being rather presumptuous.
Is such "yard sharing" common where you live?

Did you put the basketball goal up yourself? If it came with the house, then your neighbors had probably used it before you moved in. Were probably welcome to use it with permission from their former neighbors. The door was probably already dented too, if that was the case.
Yard sharing is not common anywhere, I don't think, but children will break boundaries. I know this because I was a kid once myself, lol. No fence, no vicious Doberman behind said fence, NO PROBLEMS!
Will you be leaving the goal up when the new doors are installed?
