Just saw on local tv news that a guy shot and killed 7 in TN.....

when they were interviewing neighbors, someone actually used that phase, lethal parenting, as a causative factor in his behavior.

Interesting. Never heard that before....

Lethal parenting = just another way to define really bad parenting, being raised in an atmosphere of domestic child abuse and violence. I have no doubt there are lots of killers who are what they are because of lethal parenting by really bad parents. Maybe even some of the parents are killers themselves.

Apologies then. Since you titled the topic Lethal Parenting? with a question mark and then said "Never heard that before...." I thought you actually meant that you had never heard that before.

So what was it you really meant when you said you'd never heard that before?

Say more gbh. I'm at a loss for direction.

There are a lot of causative factors here. Abuse, neglect, environment, genetics.

First thing that springs to mind is an echo of the other thread about criminalizing parenting. Is that the refence? The press's role in making it a legal rather than medical issue?

I was thinking, but didn't write, that I'd never heard it used in that way....sorry. The term is pretty much self explanatory.

I'm not making a determination.....

just commenting surprise to hear a neighbor quoted as saying the gunman had lethal parenting.

This thread got off on the wrong foot I think....
