It was more about the race than his dressing, I brought that up because there are others who may think how he dressed was a factor (in how he may or may not be treated).
With regards to the article that redplum linked, those stores are in parts of Brooklyn with majority people-of-color. Implying racial profiling.
A few have mentioned this is "common practice"
Is it really in areas where the customers are mainly white?
Somehow I doubt he would've been treated the same as a white customer in Beverly Hills.
Wow.
If it is a store that experiences a lot of thefts, they may put policies in place to minimize losses. If the store is in a minority neighborhood, it is not the store's fault if they have a high rate of thefts.

Profiling is actually more common when it’s a black person in a white area. It definitely happens.

Some posters seem to want this to be the case rather than accepting that "one shoe" is the policy of some stores. If the store has the policy for all, they are still crying racism.

Also the store is 40 mins from where I am at so I can't just ask a white friend to go in to see how they were treated.

Even Oprah called that out.
I'm white.
I've never ever had to just try one shoe on at a time. My local shopping areas are mostly white customers as well.

It very well may be. Again I have witnessed it firsthand myself when out with my friend.

This thread isn't about whether profiling exists. It does. And it isn't only racial. It is about an OP stating their friend was racially profiled in this instance, with no evidence that anyone else in the store was treated differently.

That is what I mean.
They seem to be implementing the practice in minority neighborhoods, or to minority customers in stores that are in mainly white areas.

It's not just color, it's customer base too. Do you really think poor white areas don't do this? Or that rich neighborhoods of any color that don't have high rates of theft feel a need to do this? My guess is that Sassy does not live or shop in areas that have a problem with a high theft rate.
Maybe your friend was profiled, maybe not, but taken altogether your need to find something wrong... "maybe it was his color, maybe his sexual orientation, but he was well dressed, maybe we should video this just in case"... makes it look like you really want to find something to be outraged about.

They go by numbers. If they have high losses in a store they may place policies to minimize losses. Not sure what part is confusing. Maybe they should just close the high loss stores instead and have vacant boarded up storefronts in those areas. That would be so much nicer than anti-theft policies to help keep prices down.
