Can you tell me some of the furniture factories that are in North Carolina? We are looking to relocate and my husband has been in furniture for years. If possible please give me the city and name of the factory. Anywhere in the state is fine, just looking now. Thanks so much.

If you're trying to find a job, unfortunately furniture is one of the worst industries to be in right now. Over the past 10 years many factories in NC have been closed in favor of Asian imports, leaving thousands of people out of work. If your husband has a niche skill (like upholstering) he may be able to get lucky, but even then there will be lots of competition for jobs. At any rate, the furniture industry in NC (what's left of it) is concentrated around High Point/Thomasville, Hickory, and Lenoir, with some smaller producers scattered around other parts of the state. You can google "NC furniture manufacturers" to find more info.

Your chances are much better then. Good upholsterers are always in demand, and as Sunny says the industry is picking up a bit. Fortunately the Asia outsourcing didn't affect upholstered furniture as much because people want customization. You can't make the product until the customer actually purchases it, and the additional shipping time from Asia makes the wait much too long for most people.

Good luck in your search!
