I grew up in South Florida, went to college in Boston, MA. I am graduating soon and need something IN BETWEEN! I want to go back down south, but not THAT far south. I've decided NC is just what I need. BUT WHERE?

I want to be NEAR the ocean, not necessarily ON it, just close enough for a drive. I don't want to be SUPER URBAN like Boston, but enough activity that its not sleepy-town. I will probably be living alone, so affordable rent is important.

Basically, I have come up with in my mind a list of requirements of my new home. I am just scouring the map to see if this place that has all the things I need exists!

I am considering a few cities and was looking for feedback based on what I'm looking for.

-Raleigh- worried its too big/urban, and too far from beach.

-Chapel Hill- worried its TOO college, where I will feel lame for moving to a college town AFTER I graduated. Still, there's grad school... beach distance too.

-Wilmington- worried its too historical and small. Nightlife?

I know there are other things I'm looking for, but its hard to draw it all out of your mind at once, you know? That being said, anyone with feedback so far?

Hi There...
I too live in MA and have for all of my life. I'm considering relocating to NC for a job offer. However, I have visited Wilmington several times as I have close friends living there. I just wanted to offer my two cents about the area.... It's close to the beach, and there are some nice beachs. The downtown area is really nice in regards to nightlife, about 6-8 bars all close to each other so you can walk from one to the next. Offers a variety of bar atmospheres from the dance club style, to the dueling pianos, to just your average pub. Lots of college kids around when UNC is in session. I thoroughly enjoy it there and feel that is has a lot to offer without having that big city feel. Just my thoughts...
