Hi There!

My husband and I are planning on a move to North Carolina in the next year and we are about to go on our first trip to explore some of the area. We are wanting to move within 1-2 hours of Raleigh or Charlotte and affordability, safety and schools are at the top of our priority. We are looking to spend between 150-200K on a nice home in a small town with a good school system. I am a home care nurse and my husband will be working from home, so commute is no issue.

What are some good towns worth looking at in the piedmont region? We'd appreciate any suggestions!

There are dozens of towns that are affordable, safe, and have good schools in the piedmont region, so it's really difficult to give you an answer. Can you give us a little more to go on? What is a "small town" to you--3,000 people, 30,000 people, 90,000? Do you want a rural environment, or an interstate running through town, or water close by, or easy access to the beach or mountains, liberal/conservative, etc., etc., etc.?

A town of 50,000 people or less, closer to water than mountains, no preference in terms of liberal/conservative. A rural feel in the town with bigger urban areas within a 2 hours drive away... hope this helps & thank you

Tanger Outlets, on the weekends a huge mostly Hispanic flea market on the outskirts of town. (si su quiere practicar su espanol).

Are you aware that City-Data has demographic snapshots of most towns and cities? Here is the one for Salisbury. Go up one level and there's a list of other towns.
