A bi partisan bill would make it a Class 2 misdemeanor to leave a pet locked in a car in extreme temperatures or for long periods without food or water and a Class 1 misdemeanor if the act causes serious injury or death to the animal.

The bill would allow law enforcement to break in and rescue the pets after a quick attempt to find owner.

Currently law enforcement cant break in to save pets and officers only can try to find the owner.

Finally, something that makes sense. Frankly, you can also take those neglectful pet owners to jail as far as I'm concerned.

The current law is stupid and cruel.

It may not "create jobs" but it is likely to save lives. If I saw a dog in a hot car, I don't think I would be able to resist breaking the windows if it came down to it.

Same can be said of a child. If you see anything alive that is in distress and possibly going to die - It is your duty to do what has to be done. I have heard of mall cops who will not break a window in a car to rescue a child or dog...forget the rules..smack that window.

It will help to save life's, and the right thing might seem to break in and save. Before this law it not a crime to leave animals in hot cars, and the first responders would be liable for damages.

Don't know what extreme temps mean. I take my corgis all over the place, but only when the temperature and sun permit. I can rely on my judgement, not so sure about many others.

I don't want to be denied the right to leave mine in the car on a quick trip to HT when it is 55 and overcast. Let me do that, and I am good to go.
