Only highways that are currently marked with 70-mile-per-hour maximums would be considered for the higher speed limit if the proposed bill passes.

The new Clayton bypass has a speed limit of 70 mph. Part of highway 70 between Kinston and New Bern is also 70 mph. They are building a new bypass which will allow travelers to get to Morehead City quicker. Unfortunately, it remains unfunded and may take up to 20 years to complete.

US 17 - Elizabeth City bypass, Edenton bypass, Windsor bypass
US 64 - Raleigh to Williamston(?) and parts of Washington, Tyrrell Counties
US 74 - Whiteville bypass(?), Lumberton(?)
I 95 - VA Border to Wilson or Smithfield(?) and Fayetteville bypass
I 40 - Marion to West of Hickory(?), Statesville to Clemmons, Garner to Wilmington

Anyone driven the Elizabeth City bypass? Completely straight for five miles or so, not trees at all, just grass, and only one exit. Definitely a candidate for 75MPH speed limit.
