Interestingly (rather eerily) the NC forums hasn't really said a single thing about this tragedy.

SBI investigating shooting of teen by officer | CharlotteObserver.com

Very little press online, print, and TV. Actually heard about it via national news outlets.

Normally shootings by police (or the other way around) get a lot of online ink with those who support one side or the other.

I never understand how these things always come down to self-defense by the officer, and there's never ever an instance in which the officer is wrong. Hopefully the right thing happens for the family that has lost their son.

I found the killing shocking, but did not want to say anything until the facts were released. The Boiling Springs Lake police have now said their officers did nothing wrong. Unfortunately, that is exactly what I expected them to say.

I do hope the parents of this boy find peace.

This story is awful and my heart goes out to the family. I cannot understand the term of "self defense". He was 18 years old and only 90 lbs. Unless he was armed this just doesn't make any sense.....I hate hearing stories like this.

Really?

Ferrell, 24, was shot to death early Sept. 14 in northeast Charlotte by Officer Randall Kerrick, 27.
Kerrick has been charged with involuntary manslaughter.

This is the most recent as far as I know. Never say "never". BTW: did not hear of that shooting either

That's what's a little puzzling. I learned about it from CNN/Fox News at a national level first. Normally I would see something like that pop up here first, then local Charlotte or NC media. Very very little local coverage, especially given how that young boy's death occurred.

I'll be honest, it's a little disheartening how there's a big emphasis on the average citizen to be law abiding, do the right thing, and take responsibility, however when law enforcement legitimately screws up, they "lawyer up" just like everyone else - whether right or wrong.

Of course they should get an attorney before speaking to law enforcement. Anything they say can be used against them. Only really stupid people have bought into their line of bull about not needing an attorney if you are innocent.
