North Carolina is a diverse state with many different options of living. What made you pick the outer banks, Charlotte, waxhall, Mount olive, Raleigh, Ashville etc..... For your different choice of lifestyle living.

Here are some of the general or bias opinions on both styles of living.

Urban/City Pros: great nightlife, diversity, ethnic food
Urban/City Cons: crime, rude people, crowded, noisy

Rural Pros: quiet, not crowded, good to raise kids, neighbors are not as isolated against each other, gorgeous nature, quaint local customs, cost of living is much lower.
Rural Cons: dislike of people from out of area, close minded people, lack of trendier stores or huge malls

I wish you had include the genuine rural option for voting. Suburban does not really mean rural, and many people prefer the rural option. I see many request for 5-10 acres, and places where people can raise animals, ride horses or shoot at targets on their own property.

Yep, I agree... there really should be three choices: urban, suburban, rural.

I'm confused. Your title asks about urban vs rural. Your poll is for urban vs suburban. Suburban does not equal rural. Even exurbs are not rural. What is it that you really want? If you want to know about urban vs rural you are going to see a different result in your poll. Or do you want to know about urban vs suburban vs rural?

I like somewhere in between. I live rurally in the Midwest. My "town" has less than 10,000 residents. We have two gas stations, a Walmart, a few local restaurants, and a mom & pop grocery store.

However, if I need to do shopping at a mall or go to a chain restaurant, the nearest one is only about 35 minutes away.

It's nice having a 5 minute commute to work, and the taxes are cheaper here.

However, I'm not sure if I would enjoy living super rural like some towns in Nebraska that are hours from anything resembling civilization.

I live in a small town, but in the "downtown" area, so I guess that puts me in the urban/small town category, although that doesn't seem to be on option. I'm getting older, and like the slower pace, low crime and greater sense of community in a small town. Plenty of restaurants, basic shopping needs, entertainment options available. More shopping options are only about 30 minutes away, so its the best of both worlds.
