Hello All,
Our Daughter will be graduating High School in 2 years, we are thinking of Moving to North Carolina to a small town not far from the fun(restaurants, theater, shopping, etc). Not sure if we want to rent or buy. I know I can llok up crime stats but if anyone can give their personal experience about a safe town it would be deeply appreciated. Thank you

Sneads Ferry on the coast is very safe from a personal standpoint. You have to watch out for theft from cars. There has been an store occasional hold-up by a drug addict, but there are druggies everywhere.

Your first priority should be a finding job. Unless you have some connection with the Marines or Navy, most jobs are in retail or hospitality and pay minimum wage.

I think you should do some significant research on where you can find a job. The safety issue is minor after you find a job. There are hundreds of safe small towns in North Carolina, ranging 500 miles from the mountains to the coast.

I realize I put the nick in cynic....but come on really?

"Where is a town with low crime in NC?"

You're going to have to help us out a little more than that. Your fellow Long Islanders have hearded to Cary for the past 20 years. I wouldn't call Cary a small town but it has restaurants and shopping.

Do you prefer the mountains, the coast, near any major job centers? Why is NC the place you are searching?

I meet more Long Islanders around here then I do people who grew up here. Cary is a good spot, but rather over grown. Apex, Holly Springs, and even Fuquay Varina are all good options not far from either Cary, or Raleigh.

My husband and I are in our mid 30's and recently married, looking to re-locate from South Florida to North Carolina, particularly near Raleigh. I work for higher education and he for hospital as medical tech. We are also wanting to start a family as well. Any suggestions on cities we should look into? Pros or Cons. We thoroughly enjoy the outdoors and looking for a home on at least a half or full acre. We would also like to be close/near downtown local scene.

Start here:

Then search through the dozens of recent post on the Raleigh/Durham/Chapel Hill Board.

Then post specific questions on that board.

You really ought to start a new thread in the Raleigh/Durham subforum, and distinguish yourselves with a unique title.

It is hard to be close to downtown Raleigh and have that much acreage at an affordable price. If the acreage is a priority, look to Chatham or Orange County and enjoy the amenities of Chapel Hill. Alternatively, you might find it in Johnston County, and be close to some amenities in Clayton or about 20 miles from downtown Raleigh.

It's not hard at all to find 1/2 to 1 acre within 20 minutes to downtown Raleigh.

I do agree the intervening poster should head over to the Triangle forum and read up and then post though.
