Good Evening,

My family and I are considering a move from Florida to the Fayetteville area. I've read most all of the back posts, and it seems that a lot of people don't feel that Fayetteville is a particularly safe or desirable city to live in. Is there an area within 30 minutes or so of downtown Fayetteville that anyone could recommend? We have elementary-aged children, so would ideally like to find an area with kids, good schools, etc.

We'd also be interested in finding out more about swim teams and gymnastics in the area.

Thank you so much for your time.

Why on earth would you move to Fayetteville unless you have to for the military or a medical job? I'd suggest going to Wake County instead. Fuquay-Varina and arts of Angier is about the closest Wake County towns. They have good schools, and are family friendly. It's probably more than 30 minutes to downtown F'ville, but it would be a better choice.

If you have to be within 30 minutes, you might look into the Jack Britt school district or Raeford or Lillington.

Also, if you have higher-end budget, you might look at Eastover. (That's the $300-400K plus range.)

Thank you for your response, Goldenage1.
If we looked at 45 minutes out, would there be more choices?

There are plenty of safe places 45 minutes out, but not with especially good schools. One example is Lillington. I will stick with my reccomendations of Eastover and the Jack Britt school district in Hope Mills/Fayetteville, or else go to Wake County. BTW, my relatives live in suburban areas of Sanford. Some send their kids to the Lee Christian school. So if Christian schools are OK for you, that's an option.

LisaMar, what draws you to Fayetteville? Do you have a job offer?

Look at Eastover, Grey's Creek and Hope Mills for schools. If you don't mind being a little bit farther away, look at Southern Pines, Pinehurst and Aberdeen. It's more expensive to live in those areas than Fayetteville, but the schools are much better there.
