Woops, found info on this site. Looks like all I need is insurance in NC to get tags here, not a NC driver's license. So I can get insurance here without in-state license and get NC tags (easier here). If any contradictions, kindly advise. THANKS

Considering 2nd home in NC. Does anyone know if DMV requires me to use NC tags if I don't spend most of the year here? My driver's license is not in NC and I hear it's hard to drive around without NC tags. Looked at DMV site and manual and just can't find this. And would that require me to get driver's license in NC instead of state I mostly live in? Thanks for any help

If you have a home in NC that is not your principal residence, there is NO need to have NC tags or driver's license.

Huh? There are many, many out-of-staters who have 2nd homes in NC and keep their out-of-state tags. Maybe you're referring to comments about the way outsiders are treated? If you obey traffic laws, you'll have no problem. If you treat others as you wish to be treated, you'll have no problem.

Thanks for the info. No, we are totally polite in NC, we love the politeness in NC !!!....I have had police tell me to get NC tags if I'm stopped in one of those weekend alcohol check lines. We're home shopping.
