Hi all. Considering a move from Miami to NC in the future. Would love to hear from anyone that has relocated from somewhere to nc. Where did you come from, where in nc did you go, things that you like/dislike, how it compares to where you came from and any regrets? Thanks!!!
I moved to NC 6 years ago from Vermont and I never looked back. The people here are wonderful, the weather is fantastic, and you are never too far from either the beaches or the mountains. The only drawback to NC is that the job market is not that great right now. After the company that I worked for in NC went out of business, I had to go to Maryland to find a job. I am still lucky enough to spend about half of every month in NC. North Carolina will always be my permanent home and where my heart is.
If you can find a job NC and enjoy southern culture as much as I do, then you should love being in NC!

What specific part of NC are you looking into? It's a large, diverse state. The mountains aaren't anything like the coasts (of course)...so it would be better to ask for people who've moved to the specific area you're planning to move to, for comparisons. I.e. if you're planning to move to the coast, people's experiences in the mountains probably aren't very relevant to you.
I moved from mid-Michigan in 2007. I hate the hot, muggy summers. I like the mild winters though The economy is much, much better here than where I am from. My biggest problem with NC is the distance from my family. Other than that, I have few complaints (outside of 95 with 85% humidity).
Thanks guys. Your right, I'll repost with more specificity about location. Have been researching the suburbs of the Raleigh area and it's surrounding areas as well as the surrounding areas of Charlotte.
We came from New England 2 yrs ago. We love NC and now consider it "home". We landed in Cary like many others do but have been able to explore during the time here. Lived in Apex for a year and will now be going further south to the Southern Pines/Pinehurst/Aberdeen area. The Raleigh area is nice. It has a lot to do and see if that is what you want/need. But to us (a retired couple from the suburbs of NE) it's still too busy and expensive an area. We know now that we want more peace and quiet. I would be good with a double wide in the country but that can mean being 45 minutes from Walmart etc and that's just too secluded LOL!
Anyway... I guess you just need to land somewhere like Raleigh or Charlotte and be prepared to just "be" for a bit while you explore... Either way, you will love it too!
I moved here from upstate New York back in the 1990s and have been bouncing between the Triangle and Triad ever since. I moved when I was somewhat young so I don't really have much to compare it too, but I really like it and don't think I would ever leave.
Apex had grown so fast just in the past year. The traffic is much worse now all over here and with planned road construction coming up, a drive into Raleigh will be crawleigh slow. I took to going back roads every where I needed to get to in the last six months, but it seems everyone else has the same idea.. LOL
Apex used to have a suburb type of a feel. No longer. It's just plain crazy busy and hectic. If you don't mind that, it will work for you. I guess it's the price of convenience to Raleigh...
