at least you'll have so much better weather and a real beach nearby.
Yes, we don't have any beaches, we have sand bars where boaters can beach their boat at when it's warmer out. I love WI during the summer, but that only last a good 3-4months.

The biggest thing that bothers me will be the crime...

I think Greensboro would fit you nicely since it doesn't have bad traffic and has city amenities. Charlotte should be off your list since traffic is a concern like a previous poster said. Good luck.

Thanks for all of the responses. I will take the advice and really focus on finding the job before making the move. the issue is that it's been years in the works to get this far and am really ready to make the leap and it pains me to keep delaying it. I will check out what VA has to offer as one person suggested, since my applications online in NC have yielded nothing to date. I really don't want the crime or traffic of the big city, just like the restaurants, clubs, sporting events, parks, etc they have to offer so being relatively close is nice while still living a less hectic life normally. the high humidity is not for me either.

I took the quiz at **** and it came up with Morganton, NC as the best pick for me in the country! Thoughts?

hmmm...interesting.

I like Morganton - go thru it every time I head to my favorite hiking in the mountains.

It has its charms, but, it has also been hit very hard in the last decade with the loss of manufacturing jobs, among others. I like the old downtown with its Main Street, historic courthouse, movie theater and shops. But some would tell you the place looks "tired". I'd still say to give it a look see myself

To what Loves said, I will add that politically and culturally . . . well. Not a match between where you are now and Burke County, NC.

From what I know about Wisconsin (hubby has a brother who has lived there for about 40 years) I would suggest you check out Albemarle County, VA (Charlottesville) . . .

Did the **** quiz have a question about humidity? Because Morganton has it!

The Hickory-Morganton-Lenoir area also has the worst unemployment in the state.

I am plotting out my road trip tonight for March time frame. Unemployment appears to be an issue everywhere, but is there a good site for telling the rate by city? I thought humidity was in the questions. This site didn't like when I typed out the name of the site I used... I'll try it with separated words: find your spot dot com, in case you're interested.

Here's a good one:

NC Local Area Unemployment Statistics

Morganton isn't listed separately in the cities section - it's probably too small. It's part of Hickory-Lenoir-Morganton in the Metropolitan Statistical Areas.

You might check out Locust NC and the surrounding area. Locust is located about 12 miles from the I485 outer-loop of Charlotte NC. It is in Stanly County which has Morrow Mountain State Park , Lake Tillery , and Badin Lake. The central Piedmont area is knoen as teh Central Park of the South. Jobs are a little scarce..although the neighboring county (Cabarrus) is really starting to grow with bio-tech jobs and support.
