I know there is one near Lake Norman somewhere....exactly where is it, and what lake does it use for cooling? (I think most power plants use lake/bodies of water for their cooling process). Are real estate prices affected by being close to the plant? TIA!
There are two types of reactors here in the US, Boiling Water Reactors and Pressurized Water Reactors. PWR's are the most popular. Both require a water source to use so locating near a water source makes sense.

Lake Norman does have it's reason for being because of nuclear power so the poster's question isn't as far-fetched as it may seem.
Lake Keowee, SC (near Clemson and Anderson, SC and the NC border) is also a cooling pond for a nuke. It is amusing to note that local realtor, developer and Chamber of Commerce advertisements for this lake, which is a hotbed of expensive development activity, never mention the presence of this facility.
