Going to see a show upcoming at the FM Kirby Center and was thinking of making it into a day trip. Usually hit the Mohegan Sun but was thinking of grilling food outdoors somewhere for an early dinner. Any interesting spots to hit nearby? Is there anywhere that folks hang out that are going to the shows at the Kirby Center? I see they have parking garages instead of a big parking lot. Guessing there isn't any tailgating going on? Anything else nearby that would be interesting to check out in the day?

Yeah, the Kirby Center isn't in a good location for tailgating and grilling. Rodano's is a good after show bar and grill, and it's just a few buildings down from the Kirby. Hardware Bar is cool (hot bartenders dancing on bar, like Coyote Ugly). You can set up a B-B-Q across the river at Kirby Park. they have pavillions and grills on site. You going to se Sully Erna? I wanted to go to that. There are many restaraunts around the general area of the Kirby Center, just take a stroll down South main Street.

At the Mohegan Sun casino they are having some bands coming up, this was the first I've heard of this. The name bands are ticketed, but if you notice at the middle of the page, they are also going to have weekly "Party on the Patio" events. I had to call them for more info, but the lady I spoke to says these events are free, and they are tribute bands.
She said they have a DJ from 6-7PM, then the bands come on from 7-8PM and 8:30-9, and after that they have karaoke.
Sounds like fun and the price is right:

Yep W-B went to the Sully Erna show. It was very good and had a great atmosphere. Great light show and the band sounded awesome live. If you get a chance to get out and see him in the future it's highly recommended. We ended up staying a little bit later at the casino.....friend won 120 on slots and I lost 35 on poker (was down 120 at one point so happy to come back from that!).

frank - thanks for the information and pretty cool they are having those bands come in. Always enjoy the local bands that play there on the weekends. Wished I lived a bit closer to the casino as I'd definitely be there more (which could be good or bad haha!
