My kids and I are planning to relocate to PA while my husband commutes home on the weekend from nyc. We are looking for a kids friendly community with excellent schools. Are there any recommendations on towns that we should take in consideration? A

Hi,

The first consideration is distance for your husband traveling. The weather can get tricky at times and the closest commute into NY is the best. My husband commuted to Grand Central for 3 years - tough!

As far as communities go, my best advice to you is ask - but do the leg work and ring door bells and talk to people. Talking to people gives you an idea of what the community is like and what to look for and avoid.

If you are considering a decent commute for your husband you may want to consider Westfall, Milford, Matamoras areas with the Delaware Valley School District. Good luck in your decision.

Email me if you have further questions.

Hi,

We are kinda in the same boat except my husband drives all around the East Coast for work. I have 4 young kids so I am looking into kid friendly communities as well as an excellent school district. We really liked Masthope Mountain Community in Lackawaxen. It is the Wallenpaupack School District which comes highly recommended. I spoke with someone in the community today who said there were approx. 120 kids that take the school buses from their community. Also, they have year round amentities which we like. The dues are high though. Check out their website. Not sure about the commute to NY from Lackawaxen. Your hubby might not like it.

Good luck!

We are just south east of Lackawaxen in Shohola which is part of the Delaware Valley School District. It is nice here, very rural. You can get a lot for your money.
Milford, I think, also is part of that school district and has a lot of lake communities. Be careful, many of them have very high association fees. I think there are a lot of NYC commuters in/near Milford area. We are about 20 mins NW of Milford.

Good luck.

You are probably wanting to keep your access to I-80 or The Martz Bus Terminal which travels back and forth to NY all day long everyday. Sierra View or The Birches stand out as they are very close to the termnial and are in The Pleasant Valley School District.
