My DH and I are looking to add on to our home and really have no idea how to get started. If anyone has recently added on or have done any recent remodeling and can recommend a good contractor we would greatly appreciate it. Thanks so much....

I don't know any contractors in your area, but I am a general contractor in Los Angeles and I am thinking about moving to PA., so I've been posting and reading on this site. I can tell you that it is usually a good idea to find a reasonably priced architect or licensed building designer prior to talking to a contractor about your project. Changes are a lot easier to make on paper plans than they are once construction has started, and you'll no doubt need plans to obtain building permits anyway. It's always easier to estimate price and duration of build when there is a concise plan to go from.
Good luck, and remember to get EVERYTHING in writing up front, and check for proper liciensing and insurance on the part of the contractor. I'm sorry to say, there are a lot of flaky "builders" out there.

I can highly recommend someone that just put a covered porch on our house in Lake Ariel. Honest workers, decent prices, and done in a reasonable amount of time. Here's a before and after pic, but the after was taken with my phone so it's not great. PM me if you'd like the info

Thanks so much woodbutcher for the advice. I think we will consult someone on this addition. Your spending so much money that your better off having something on paper to guide them along.

Poconosmama yes i would love to know you built you porch. It looks great. Thanks so much for reponding.
