Hello - my husband and I have begun to look at houses in these areas. We've found ones we like in each of the above school districts. It is still very early in our search, but I was wondering what information you could all give me on these districts. We have three kids, but only one will be attending school - the other two are older. The one who we're concerned about is a 13 year old boy who just started 8th Grade.

What's good about each one? What isn't good? What have you all heard?

We spent the day in the Hideout yesterday - the weather was nice, hot - but not like today (which is raining and raining HARD). And we went for dinner in Wilkes-Barre, at the Olive Garden. It was very nice. We had a good day.

So help me, all - what information can you give me to help us make our choices?

Yes...I agree...do a search...
I have a daughter who graduated from Western Wayne 3 years ago and another who attended Western Wayne up to 8th grade and is now in Scranton Prep.

From living here for 15 years...North Pocono and Wallenpaupack have better reputations, Wallenpaupack having the best rep. That said...I was always happy with the education that my children got at Western Wayne. Happy with the administration and teachers as well.

I also have lived in The Hideout for 14 1/2 years. I can help you out with any questions about The Hideout.

There is a closer Olive Garden...it is in Dickson City. This is probably the closest major shopping/dining place to all 3 of those school districts.

Western Wayne, Wallenpaupack, and North Pocono all have their own issues. What school dosn't. Be a responible parent and pay attention to your children and you will be fine. Don't be like half the population who think they don't need to be responible for their childs actions. And whatever you do, DON'T MOVE THE THE HIDEOUT OR WLE. Get yourself a nice piece of property outside a community. Yes the extra's in these places are nice however there is also alot of trash. Not that everyone there is bad, but my child has gone to Hamlin Elem, Lake Elem and now to middle school and every child we have ever had a problem with is from either place. Don't come here feeling that the locals owe you something treat them with the same respect you would want to be treated with and you will be fine. Good luck where ever you go. Oh and if you choose Western Wayne, let them know you exist and are the parent and expect communication from them. Forgot to tell you lived here forever graduated from Western Wayne and proud of it.

Well, that post speaks volumes of the problems 'imports' still have with locals.
With this type of attitude, the walls between the locals and the 'imports' will never be broken down. This is a true example of the type of mentality you will face when you move here, I'm sorry to say. Thankfully not all locals have this mentality.
Like this poster said...every child they have had a problem with comes from WLE or The Hideout. Suggesting that a child could be so horrible, merely because their parents chose to live in either of these communities is ridiculous. These type of people automatically assume that the only trash in within these communities, they teach their kids this mentality and that is how problems in the schools start. Furtermore...this poster mentions 3 different schools, all withing the Western Wayne School District. There is not a single child who attends any of these 3 schools that lives in WLE.
Many of the locals who have this attitude have never been inside either community.

And by the way....the locals do owe these folks something...the same respect that they would like to receive and think they are entitled to.

Bad kids come from "anywhere." That's a fact. Bad kids don't come from locations, they come from bad parents. I have known lovely people with great kids who live in WLE, I have known lovely people with great kids who live in The Hideout. I also was subject to bullying on my school bus when I was a kid and it was from kids who lived "in the sticks" not in developments...do you think it might be that the PARENTS have something to do with it?

I am a graduate from Wallenpaupack and two of my kids attend there. The reputation has always been good but of course there are "bad seeds" ANYWHERE. Wallenpaupack has a strong fine arts and sports program. It's a well funded district too.

I would suggest visiting each school and meeting with administrators.

Well said, PA...........this is not a caste system and everyone has the same rights whether they have been here a lifetime or not. It is called how you treat people. Saying that people are bad from WLE or the Hideout is totally wrong. I have meet so many nice people from both of these communities.

WOW- both of my children graduated from WW and we live in the Hideout-both were active - won numerous awards and got great scholarships to private colleges - had many, many friends and they never had any problems with other students from the Hideout, WLE or elsewhere. Sorry to say, maybe you need to look within yourself and find out why this is happening to your children. Teachers and administrators always communicated with me- never had that problem either- do your children verbally communicate with you or do you think everything is up to the school? Do you attend openhouse, parent conferences, PTA mtg, etc? Lots of info available there. What about school board mtgs? Just out of curiosity- how many card changes do/did your children get in Hamlin and Lake Schools???
