Club Luna will become the next addition to downtown Wilkes-Barre's expanding nightclub/entertainment scene. It will have an upscale Miami type vibe from what I've been hearing. I did get a glimpes of the inside and it does look very posh and fancy. Is anyone going to check it out? I would like to check it out because I'm curious, but I like the neighborhood corner bar type places. It looks to fancy for me, but it's nice to have yet another entertainment option in our resurging downtown. I like what I see happening, and I think even more is on the horizon expecially since that L.A. firm has bought out the theater project and has promised to fill it up. Wilkes-Barre's "college town" type downtown actually seems to be coming to fruition against all odds. The only thing that bothers me is that all the new things that are opening are only on S.Main st. I really hope that the activity spreads out across the rest of downtown.

These people are ridiculous when they open a place based on somewhere 'upscale.' 98% of their projected local clientele wouldn't know upscale if it bit them on their sprayed on tan behinds. These bars are always the fastest to close. I've been to and lived in some big cities and the places that do the best and stay open the longest are never the 'upscale' ones. They're the ones that are interesting. With interesting beer choices, decent music (not that club crap) and no pretention. I've been to all the NYC clubs and all the 'upscale' Brooklyn Flash clubs and none of them ever last. I'll give Luna a year and then it'll change hands and then another year and then it'll be gone.

Hoo boy. The "upscale" clubs I've seen charge $40 to enter and then try to get you to plunk down $200 for "VIP bottle service" for a $20 bottle of champagne, which lets you enter the super special VIP area. Add in the ultra-cheesiness of a "Miami vibe", and they just may have found the formula for the worst night out imaginable.

Sounds good to me. What is wrong with "upscale"? Is that a bad word? What is good....uhhh downscale"...yeah lets all look for a nice downscale place while we chain our uniforn wearing - shaven head kids to the desk.

Most people don't pay $40. cover charges or $200. for a bottle service. That stuff is certainly not happening in W-B, so don't worry! The way that cities change and evolve is by the addition of some upscale spots. What happens is that the club will, hopefully, attract folks from other areas to the downtown. There is nothing wrong with that. There will always be a market for neighborhood bars.The two venues can coexist. As long as revenue is being brought into W-B it's a good thing! I wish the downtown continued success.

I'm not so sure more bars/clubs add to a "college town" atmospehere....it seems too many people are only thinking of an "Animal House" type of college experience. To be a true college town, there has to be more to do than drink. But we do live in NEPA, where drinking until you're in a stupor is still considered a measure of someone's manhood....

Heh. My experience--too many years of nyc nightlife--has taught me to avoid "upscale" clubs like the plague.
The clientele tends to be cheesy poseurs, the staff, rude and shady scammers; the sound-system, sub-par; and the vibe, all-around craptastic.
