I was just watching in disbelief on WNEP that a 28-year-old single mother battling breast cancer and her two young sons perished in a fast-moving fire at their apartment complex in Waymart, Wayne County, early this morning. Apparently a pot had been left on the stove overnight, which sparked the flames. Please remember to keep the family of these victims in your prayers this evening. It looks like 2009 isn't shaping up to be much better than 2008!

I saw the story on WNEP both this morning and later at 6. My heart breaks for this family, but also for the neighbor, who said he could hear the mother screaming "Fire fire!" and "please help us!" and the man simply broke down sobbing, because he couldn't reach them...

So very sad...I gave my kids an extra hug today before they left for school, and thought about this event all day today.

It is so sad. The children were seen screaming by the windows. My prayers are with the family.

I read in the paper that the woman has another son, 8; who lives with his Dad....my heart goes out to a little 8 yr old boy who just lost his Mom and 2 siblings all at once. It is a tragic story. While I know that children are taught fire safety like 'stop..drop...and roll'...maybe they can use this horrible tradgedy to come up with more complex instruction for children.
