Ricketts Glen is about a half-hour northwest of Wilkes-Barre along Route 118. It's on the way to Williamsport. It's a bit of a drive from Lake Ariel, but it's well worth it.

It takes us at least 30 mins. to get there from Dallas, so from WB I would say it's about 45 mins. at least.

I would probably say close to 40-45 minutes from Wilkes-Barre as well, but it depends on how much traffic, how many lights you catch going up 309N and how fast you drive It's a bit of a drive but it's well worth it! If you're getting a bunch of people together who live in Scranton or Wilkes-Barre, perhaps you can meet up at a Park and Ride and carpool up, especially for those that don't know where it is, etc. It's not difficult to find, but figured I'd toss out the suggestion anyway :P

April sounds good to me. The trip out will be part of my birthday gift to myself. So, it sounds like Ricketts Glen is the place to hike! And I'd be all for a caravan of sorts at a park and ride. I don't know the area at all and well, sometimes Tom Tom isn't the best traveling companion!

For the lunch, I think we ought to see about how many people are interested and then perhaps one of the local folk could suggest a place that will handle that many people. We'd have to make reservations ahead of time, I'm sure.

Well when you drive twice the posted speed limit, time just becomes a blur!

Well, we could either drive out to Rickett's Glenn and eat at the hotel there (I'm pretty sure they could accommodate a group of our size), or another option would be having lunch somewhere in the Back Mountain on the WAY to Rickett's Glenn. Pizza Perfect comes to mind if that's a decision. I believe everyone would be (and correct me if I'm wrong Paul) coming up 309 to get to 118 and going through the Back Mountain anyway? We could also have a pre-get together at my house in Dallas! lol

I'm very much down with the hike. (And with the lunch provided it's veggie-friendly- I believe at least 3 folks in this thread are veggie including OP. The hotel looks neat, but the site mentions just "seafood, steaks, veal, and chicken entrees". oh, plus prime rib.)

Yay, April birthdays.

Yes, Blip, I'm a veggie too! I can usually find something anywhere, and if traveling, I carry a variety of snacks to make up for the salad I had because that was the only thing on the menu without a face!

April birthdays are great, aren't they!
