One of the things I love most about this area is the respect and appreciation afforded to our Veterans. I am proud to say, I am happily married to a 13 year Army/combat vet. One of the happiest days of my life was when he came home from war. I hope we all can take a moment to remember the meaning of today, say a prayer and a thank you. It means so much to those that served, and brings some peace to the families that have lost loved ones.

Thanks for the reminder loveinbloom! I'd also like to offer my appreciation for any NEPA veterans that read this forum. It's your service to our country that keeps us safe, and I'd like to say thank you. Another thank you to spouses like loveinbloom who support their spouses while they are away from home. That's got to be a hard job too!

My mate is also a veteran, but from the "Vietnam Conflict"; going on 27 years together. He fought for freedom, but feels "cheated" by his own country unfortunately.

Tell him/her thank you...from my family to yours...without him/his comrades my husbands Gulf War illness would still be being debated. I have been married to my husband for 21 years and had the honor to meet and know many Vietnam era vets that were still on active duty in the 80s & 90s.
I know it does not make up for what Vietnam vets went through/go through but the served their younger counterparts in so many ways.

I work at United Methodist Homes Wesley Village. Every year for Veteran's Day, we honor our residents who are veterans, and also bring in residents from the VA for a wonderful celebration. The staff forms an honor guard as all the veterans enter the celebration. There isn't a dry eye in the place! Thank you all veterans, for all you have done!

If you are able,
save them a place
inside of you
and save one backward glance
when you are leaving
for the places they can
no longer go.
Be not ashamed to say
you loved them,
though you may
or may not have always.
Take what they have left
and what they have taught you
with their dying
and keep it with your own.
And in that time
when men decide and feel safe
to call the war insane,
take one moment to embrace
those gentle heroes
you left behind.

You may have met my Mom! She is one of the volunteers at the VA who also assists on the bus trips. The guys love an afternoon out. I'm glad that they can get together.
