Hello! I thought I'd ask this here since there seems to be a lot of posters who've made this move. How were your car insurance rates affected - did they go up or down? I called my Insurance Co. for a quote and was surprised to find that it's MORE expensive in PA than in NJ. Could she possibly have made a mistake (I doubt it). But I just thought I'd see what others experienced. Thanks!

It should be going down. Unless you're coming from a very rural area in NJ (if such a place exists) to a more populated area in PA. There's somewhat of a 'zipcode lottery' effect to this, it all depends on your zipcodes.

I'd definitely get a few more quotes in the new zip. And if they are lower, go back to your existing insurer and ask why?

Depends on where in PA you are moving to.

I use an insurance company called Amica...had used Progressive prior but the rates went up instead of down...I used a website called Compare Insurance Quotes for Auto, Home, Life, Health | InsWeb to get quotes from multiple companies and Amica was the cheapest...

Mine dropped from $1,100 to $700 a year for the same coverage and vehicles, even though my commute is longer now (20 miles vs. 3 miles).

You get what you pay for , and trust me this is so true with insurance. Cheapest is not best. I had to find out the hard way

Cheapest is not the best...that is true...but it's up to you to know what types of coverage are available and what you need...because one policy didn't work for you isn't the insurance company's fault...an educated consumer is a smart consumer...by the way I don't work for an insurance company so I'm not defending them...

Nor do I work for them. I just worry that these days people just look at the bottom number, and end up in deep trouble later!

I have Geico and for the same coverage I would go from $165 in Albrightsville to just under $100 in Monmouth County. Now what I expected!
