Hi--My family is considering a move to the Northern Neck--near Warsaw. We do not know much about the area. Any information would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

It's very pretty out there, honestly haven't been in about 3 yrs. But what I recall is it's very quiet, small old towns, rural. I liked it a lot. I think it has been doing some growing - more people are discovering it.

Default Northern Neck

I live in Stratford Harbour which is actually part of Montross. It is great to live in that area as I am originally from Northern Virginia and that area is very crime ridden. We live in a "property owners association" which is the only thing I have never wanted to be a part of. We have a beach on the Potomac River within 1/2 mile to 1 mile through the community. A lake which is named "Lake Independance" which is about 1000 acres and less than 1/8th of a mile from my house. I have 6 kids and they live at the lake all summer and they love it. We went out to Montana prior to comming to Montross. We lived on the eastern side of Montana in a town named Glendive which was very depressed, lack of jobs and just a real crappy place to live. We went there to look after my wifes father who had become ill. He got better and we hurridly left! I never want to see that place again!!
You will love Montross and the Northern Neck area! It is a very friendly place and a great place to raise kids.

Not to wild about Warsaw, but if you go a little further East to Kilmarnock, you will think you are in Heaven. The area was just featured in the Nov/Dec issue of "Where to Retire". Not a great article in some respects, as we have great places to eat and the local hospital from what I understand is now connected to U.V.A. Inland homes are still reasonable and taxes are low. We lived in the D.C. area and moved here about ten years ago.with no regrets. The area is growing fast, mainly for the water that is just about everywhere. Somewhat of a draw back in lack of big chain stores, but you are an hour from Richmond, two hours to Washington D.C. and an hour from Williamsburg. Check us out we are friendly in this part of the South.

Are you looking for a more rural setting/country living? You will find that in Warsaw. There is not a lot there in way of stores/restaurants. It is very peaceful there though and is right near the Rappahanock river if you are into boating and fishing. It is about a 50 minute drive to get to "civilization" as in larger stores and restaurants and any kind of nightlife, culture and arts. I wouldn't say there is a plethora of job opps in Warsaw either.

If you need any help in finding a residence in the Norther Neck area, we have a few Realtors that live in the community that may be of help. Please send me an email and I will forward you their information.

The northern neck is a gorgeous area. Just want you to know I drove through there the other day (I live in KingGeorge, County) and it is still green and lovely. Housing prices seem to be a bit high, but lovely places. Like previously mentioned-little towns in the area are quaint and homey, though I am not really very familiar with Warsaw itself. We have lived in Virginia for 3 years and I think it is the most beautiful place and the weather despite the humidity has been wonderful. Nice mild winters, yet a dash of snow here and there. Enough to thrill the kids, give them a break from school (all life stops when it snows) and then it melts. We are moving and I'll miss this beautiful place.

I am also about to relocate to the Northern Neck. My wife and I found a nice manufactured home on a permanent foundation on an acre of land for about $150k in Hague (East of Montross). We have 2 small children (6 and 4). My only concern is the school system in Westmoreland County. Does anybody have personal experiences?

Hi Mary and welcome to the Northern Neck. You will like here. I live in a two story white farm house over around Neenah (between Warsaw and Montross). My Mom teaches at Cople Elem so naturally it's a good school. The main thing to do here is hunting, fishing, eating out and getting together with friends. It's a pleasant life.

Here is my picture. Come visit. http://www.myoutdoorsite.com/Members...ing/Album.aspx
