My husband and I have lived in NOVA for the last 1.5 yrs and are living in centreville. We like our area but need to move closer to our work and really want more of a small town feel. Ideally we would like a place where we could walk to stores/ resturants. I work in Woodbridge and he works in Tyson so we are thinking somewhere on 123 would work well. We have been to old town fairfax and really liked it, are there any apartments within walking area? We are renting and our budget is about 1500. We would love any help!

There are apartments in walking distance of Old Town Fairfax. Fairfax Square is a large complex that lies to the east of the downtown area. It's not a bad walk along Main Street as there are sidewalks. Closer to downtown, there are newer condo buildings, where you may find rentals, but I don't know that you'd find one around $1500, since the units are larger: 2-3BR/2.5 Bath units with enclosed parking.

Off Route 123, closer to Commonwealth ER and GMU, you would find Providence Park Apartments. I am not sure of the rental range there, but it would stand to reason that it would be a tad higher than Fairfax Square, owing to the fact that they are newer and are popular with graduate students/students, etc.

There are some older complexes in the City of Fairfax that are not as well maintained, so be sure to look before you sign. And, perhaps check some of the ratings sites to see what they have to say, good and bad, about each apartment.
