I am a NYS certified Teacher for Special Education (Birth-9th) currently applying for VA certs. I have applied to many of the jobs posted in the above mentioned counties. I was not invited to the Alexandria job fair due to a high volume of applicants. I am wondering what the hiring outlook is for this fall (2011) in the area. Any advice or insight would be greatly appreciated.

Please note I have two years of full time teaching experience in Special Education and 2 years of PT (4/5) for teaching Art. I have 6 credits of autism graduate courses under my belt as well and a good knowledge of ABA.

I had a phone interview with Fairfax HR for Art last week which seemed to go well and was advised to apply July 1st with mention of the interview.

I could be wrong, but I think there is generally a fairly good "market" for SpEd teachers. I would definitely apply on July 1.

Funny enough, I got an interview for next week in Alexandria with a panel for elementary position (1st, 2nd and 3rd openings) I am certified in that as well.
