They have been on I 95 for a couple of years, they will ride left lane at 80 plus or so to catch speeders.

That is exactly what I thought when I saw the post. They could have a regular Mustang GT, why did it have to be the GT500? It would have saved Fairfax taxpayers a lot of money! It sounds like whomever the patrol car was for wanted a fancy car!

Not really. People that actually race cars tend to race vehicles that actually have the speed to do so.

still doesn't negate my point. I didn't state that was the sole reason.

I would still like to see someone honestly justify FFX's decision to go with a GT500, over another (cheaper) 2-door V8 sports car that can easily top 150mph.

Is the threshold for viscous drivers really that robust to warrant this cost? With so much traffic in the county at least 12 hours a day, I can only see FFX scoping speeders that leave early or late to avoid some traffic in their commute.....Still seems like a *****ty move to me.

I agree that a cheaper fast car could probably have been chosen (although I have no idea what you mean by a "viscous" driver).

Then again, maybe they got a super deal on the car. Maybe it costs less to buy one of those than to buy a souped-up Caprice.

Like I said, it could have been a police seizure. Would you still be angry if they got it for cheap?

It would be fun to chase down speeders in a real sports car like the Mustang GT500 or even the Dodge Chargers like police have in Alexandria. If I was a cop I'd give offenders a head start to really push the car and use it to its capacity.

I wouldn't say angry, as a tax paying resident I would at least like the purchase of such an item with tax dollars to make up the cost.

"X" tickets multiplied by I don't know lets say over two years to make up the cost. In an area with looming government budgets cuts, my gut just tells me it was fiscally irresponsible decision.

Back in the day I remember the Fox-body Mustang was very popular with police fleets. Cheap to buy, cheap to maintain, and went like stink. Now that the Ford Police Interceptor is RIP, I wonder why Ford didn't develop a HD Police package for the new Mustang? Especially when the V6 gives very good performance and decent mileage.
As for FFX GT500, more power to them. Chances are they got it at a special discount rate, since they could theoretically auction off a repo and buy nearly two "regular" 'Stangs.
