Homes in this area go from the $400k's for a smaller/older Towhome and up into the $million for Larger Single Family Homes. There are some older smaller single family homes in the high 400's/mid 500's.

It's one of the zip codes in unincorporated Fairfax County with a Vienna mailing address. The other Vienna zip codes are 22181 (also in the county) and 22180 (mostly, but not entirely, Town of Vienna). It extends from Tysons to the east all the way to the edge of Reston to the west, with McLean and Great Falls to the north.

There are a few older townhouses along the lines that the prior poster described in the $400s, but it's generally more expensive than that. Lots of $600 and $700K townhouses near Tysons; lots of 1970s and 1980s homes from $550K up north of the Town of Vienna off Beulah and Lawyer Roads and lots of homes over $1 million as well. Pretty much all the newer homes built in the 1990s or later tend to be expensive. Lots of Colonials. Not very "walkable" like parts of Town of Vienna if that's your thing, although the W&OD bike trail cuts through 22182, which is nice. Wolf Trap Performing Arts Center and the Barns are in 22182.

School assignments can be complicated; lots of split feeders where kids attending a middle school split to different high schools, etc. Depending on where you live in 22182, you could be assigned to Marshall, Madison, McLean, South Lakes or Langley HS (I think I've put them in order of the schools that get the most students from 22182, but could be wrong).

Not sure about a COL index, if that's what you mean by "cost of living." It's close to Town of Vienna/Maple Avenue, where there are plenty of small businesses like cleaners competing with one another. Have definitely found the restaurants and small businesses in McLean to be more expensive since moving there.

Novadhd5150 - I think probably lots of us know about 22182, since that is the Vienna part of Tysons Corner. It's a relatively expensive area. But it is a great starting point if your commute is into Tysons. It's one of the areas where house values could appreciate once the new Metro stations are done.

Doesn't CityData have pages dedicated to exactly what you are asking?

Oh yes, I found it. Take a look here: http://www.city-data.com/zips/22182.html
