Happy New Year everyone. 2012 is the Year of The Dragon.

The dragon gives "happiness and success to all good and honest people." It is also a very good year for people who deal with finances (not sure if that is always the good and honest people, though ).

It's an advantageous year to begin new projects in business and at the social level. So if you've been thinking about starting a new business or finally joining that meetup group, this is the year to do it.

Also, this year we should "be bold and not humble."

It's considered a favorable year for starting a family, and children born this year are likely to be smart and healthy. Considering that one thing northern VA is known for is having the highest birth rate in the country, I think this bodes well for our region.

So.......

what does all this mean for northern VA?

Will we see bold new projects? Good and honest leaders? An even higher birth rate?

So, no thought on the Year of the Dragon? Or is it that nobody wants to jinx any potential good luck by talking about it?

Happy New Year!! I hope I don't have another child this year...but that is a lot of pressure if I want to have smart kids. Bummer I didn't see last years predictions. Oh well...too late!

Gong Hay Fat Choy! In honor of CNY, I went into my daughter's classroom and read some books about Chinese New Year. Then my daughter handed out red envelopes with coins and candy to her classmates. At night brought in Chinese food with friends. I am an adoptive mom of a girl from China, and it's been a joy to celebrate her culture in a small way.

LOL, you do have to wonder about things like that, since it's bound to happen that there will be some children born this year who don't happen to turn out to be smart and/or healthy.

I guess I could claim I was bold yesterday since I drove to work at the normal time. But since the roads were fine, I don't think that counts. At any rate I took a tai chi lesson and got dinner at China Gourmet, and I guess those are ok ways to kick off a new year too. Maybe I will do something truly bold today.

If you want to have a child, it's better to have a child born in the year of Dragon than next....

The next year is the year of the snake. Who wants to be born in the year of the Snake?

I don't believe in any of the mumbo jumbo enough to plan my life around it.

Next year is the year of the snake? Hmmm, that seems like the more realistic year for a presidential election....
