It changes between 40 to 45 mph quite periodically (not to mention a 25 mph zone, out of the blue) so it is hard to keep a tab on the limits ALL the time. If one were to do 50 mph (be it a 40 or 45 mile zone) consistently, is there a (high) risk of being ticketed?

Also, what makes it "reckless" driving from a speeding standpoint - is it 20 miles over speed limit (regardless of the limit) or is it more like a %age of the actual speed limit?

I can't speak from personal experience, but if you're going 50 you're definitely going above the posted speed limit (whether the signs say 40 or 45) and Loudoun County has a rep for giving out tickets. I'd stick to 45--that way you could claim you saw the 45 mph sign and didn't realize it had changed.

They used to give tickets on Loudoun County Parkway ALL THE TIME. It was crazy. So I'd watch out.

Reckless is 20 over or 80+ mph, regardless of whether the latter is 20 over.

My husband is in law enforcement and has told me that the general rule of thumb they use is to not pull a car over unless it is going 12+ mph above the speed limit. Of course that may not be consistent among all officers. I usually try to go a little slower than the fastest driver around me so that if there is a speed trap that person will have a higher chance of being pulled over. Usually there are tons of people speeding away so finding cars that are going faster than me is usually not a problem.

They definitely used to give tickets all the time down past Loudoun Water. I don't think I've ever actually seen someone drop all the way down to 25 past Redskins Park, but I've never seen anyone getting ticketed there either.

Get a GPS that shows the speed limits and warns that you're going over. Pretty accurate in my experience. I missed one sign, but then noticed the GPS speed indicator turn red; as soon as I slowed, I noticed the cop 2 lanes over behind me. This was with a high end Garmin.

Loudoun COunty Parkway is full of surprises...I have seen many cop cars pulling speeders. There is a school Stuart Weller right around Redskin Park that zone drops to 25 other wise I think it is 40 speed limit.
