So how to create a Tornado Alley along Route 1, specifically targeting the hideous Zenith TV Store?

Arlington and Alexandria City also have email alerts you can sign up for on their websites. Arlington also has an app for iPhone and Android re: emergency preparedness.

I was hoping for a really big storm (in Arlington). I miss thunder that cracks so loudly it causes everyone in the building to scream involuntarily (I'm starting to think that must be an inland thing - I haven't experienced ear-splitting thunder since moving to the DC area in '06). I spent several of my formative years in Omaha, NE, where families have to take to their basements at least a couple times a year while the sky outside turns *green* for a brief, scary period. (Ok, the sky was sort of yellowish-green in outer Fairfax Co., near the Fair Oaks mall, last summer, but that was smog.) I enjoyed the earthquake last year. I would love to experience some more dramatic weather around here, honestly.

The physics of lightning and thunder are the same everywhere.
