I'm looking to relocate for a job in Virginia. My employer said I should live in the "Richmond Area" but I'm looking for quaint setting with low crime. Not sure I will find it there. Any recomendations? I'm married w/no children in my 40's.

Where's the job going to be? You may want to post this on the Virginia forum as there's not much that's "quaint and quiet" in this part of the Commonwealth, at least where most folks live here.

Either that, or the Richmond sub-forum. Neighborhoods like the Fan and the West End in Richmond are charming and safe. Like DC and the City of Alexandria, Richmond has its good parts and its bad parts. But a daily commute from the DC area to Richmond and back would be expensive and draining. Even Fredericksburg, which has some charming areas, is an hour or so from Richmond.

Hanover or Ashland might work for you if you're commuting into Richmond.

The Route 1 section of Alexandria (Fairfax Co) used to be a lot worse than it is now. In the 1980s, like much of the metropolitan area, that section had a large problem with drugs, especially throughout the different apartment complexes, especially Mt. Vernon Apts, Murraygate (behind Popeyes), Meadow Woods, Gum Springs, Janna Lee Apartments, etc. Sequoyah (Seven Woods Dr.) wasn't as dangerous as those living there wanted to make it out to be (I lived there when I was a kid). The area's gotten a lot better over the years, but there's still some riff-raft here and there, but not to the degree of the 80s/90s. Also, a lot of apartment complexes have become "condos," and they're overpriced for a lot of working-class families. A lot of people have been priced out and started relocating to Woodbridge in the early 2000s.

Default Moving to Richmond

You want to be on the same side of the City as where you are working. i.e. If Southside try Chester West Side try Midlothian etc.etc.

I don't understand - are you supposed to live in Richmond the city or on Richmond Highway in northern Virginia?
