My husband currently lives in Arlington. I have gotten a job in Alexandria. A lot of people have told us to look in Kingstowne to rent a home. I have 2 boys age 12 & 16. Hayfield ss looks like the only school in that area. Is it a good school academically and behavior wise. I saw some old reviews that shows the teachers don't care. Also any feedback on the Kingstowne area would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

many have done fine there, but.....It was a step below Lee, when I attended FCPS. That may not be true today. For 2-3K per month; I would expect more like WS, JM, WTW, or Oakton. Robinson and LB would also be better.

A coworker of mine lives near Ft. Belvoir and sent both his daughters to Hayfield, all the way through. His youngest daughter graduated last year. Both are good students, both did very well in the school, and both were accepted into top-notch VA state colleges. While Hayfield does have its "element", if you are a good student and seek out the education, you will get it there.

In case the OP or other potential residents aren't familiar with the high school acronyms:

WS=West Springfield
JM=James Madison
WTW=(Wilbert Tucker) Woodson
LB=Lake Braddock

Are you looking for a SFH or a TH? Price range? There have been a couple recent threads regarding current rental prices etc in the area. But generally a house will set you back about $3400 (average) and a TH about $2500. Again this depends on size, # of garages, age (there are some newer houses).

Do be aware that SFH's and TH's both rent very quickly here in KT.

We would prefer a sfh but as long as there is some yard we can do a th. Our price range is $3000. I'm planning on driving to old town Alexandria for work. My husband is working in DC so we don't want too much of a commute. Any feedback on the area is much appreciated.

Where in DC? That will determine a lot of where you want to be (i.e. which metro line, whether the VRE is good, if there are slug lines (carpooling centers) nearby, etc).

My husband commutes to old town from our home in Burke (right on the Burke/West Springfield line) and it takes 35-45 minutes, which sadly isn't bad for this area. We are also walking distance to the VRE train, which would have you downtown (L'Enfant or Union Station) in around 45 minutes for $7-8 each way.

My husband works off G street in downtown DC. Currently he takes the metro bus.
