Not if you're commuting during HOV hours. We take 66 from Vienna to downtown DC and back during HOV hours and it has never taken us more than 40-45 minutes door to door. On a good day (like today) it only takes us 25 minutes.

Check out Fairfax City. It is not too far a drive to the Vienna Metro and there is a city bus that takes you there, as well. You can find a small, older house in your price range. Schools are good. There is a small downtown area, not great, but most of what you need will be hear by.
