I'm new to DC and meeting a girl who lives near the red line for happy hour tomorrow however it's up to me to chose the bar/place. I have no clue as I live in Ballston. Any suggestions or good places accessible in the georgetown, foggy bottom metro areas to try?

Might want to post this question on the DC board -- are you looking for a nice happy hour (St. Arnold's on Jefferson) or a cheap happy hour (The Bottom Line)?

There's a very nice bar on the corner of I Street and 19th--Elephant & Castle. There's a much smaller place on the same corner, across the street. Looks like the current name is just 19th, and the reviews are so-so.

Alternatively, there are tons of small, funky bars in DuPont Circle.

If you really want to WOW her and don't mind paying out the nose, then there's the bar in the basement of the Hay-Adams Hotel, near the interesection of 16th and H St, just across Lafayette Park from the White House. Never been there, but I've read that it's very quiet, very "London Club" in its decor, and drinks are, like, $50 each. Or something. Whoa, here it is. (I should research first and write second!)

Good luck! May her beauty be eclipsed only by her wit and emotional stability (the trifecta).

Redline where, DC? Best place in Bethesda (also on the redline) is Redwood Restaurant. Really good outdoor patio, shows movies on friday nights, strung up lights, its a fun place and lots of other options right there too.

I'm partial to neighborhood Irish bars that don't attract a huge college crowd. If I'm along the red line and looking for a bite and a beer, I usually wind up at Nanny O'Brien's in Cleveland Park. I have a lot of great memories there. Murphy's of DC (Woodley Park) is another one I like; it's the only place I can find one specific type of beer that they have on tap. Yelp says the service at Murphy's has gone downhill, but I've never had a problem.

Go to Russia House in Dupont and get the vodka sampler. If she is not impressed, then at least she will be nicely buzzed and might think you are funnier than you really are.
